How indoor cricket scoring adds up

Under the Official Rules of Indoor Cricket each team has 8 players and bats 16 six-ball overs: four pairs of four overs. A batter who is out stays in. The team loses 5 runs and nothing scored off that ball counts. Scores start at 0 and can go below it.

Runs come from running between the creases and from hitting the nets, and the net runs only count when the batters also complete a run. A ball hit into the zone D net on the full and run once is 7. Tap Net, the net it hit, then the runs completed: only the runs actually run change the ends, so the scorer keeps the right batter on strike. A wide, leg side or no ball is 2 runs plus any runs made, and counts as one of the over's balls, except in the last over of each pair, where the batters may ask for it to be bowled again.

Skins: pair 1 plays the other team's pair 1, and so on. The higher pair score (runs less 5 per dismissal) wins a skin, and a tied pair passes its skin on to the next pair. A win is worth 3 points and a tie 1.5 each, so each game carries 7 points. The scorer shows the skins as each pair finishes, and the points at the end.

Centres change the details. Some take 3 runs per dismissal, and the rules allow 7 or 8 ball overs. Change Runs per wicket or Balls per over under Match setup and every ball already scored is worked out again. Penalty runs for misconduct or a bowler bowling two overs in a row are not entered here; take them off the final score by hand. They come off a pair's score, so they can also change who wins that pair's skin: check the skins by hand too.

Questions

How does scoring work in indoor cricket?

Both teams start on 0. Every run, net bonus and extra is added, and each dismissal takes 5 runs off, but the batter stays in for the pair's four overs. The team with more runs after 16 overs wins, even if its score is below 0.

What are skins in indoor cricket?

Each batting pair is matched with the same pair in the other team. The pair with the higher score (runs less 5 per dismissal) wins a skin. A tied pair passes its skin on to the next pair, and a tie in the last pair passes it back. A win is worth 3 points, a tie 1.5 each, and each skin 1.

Are wides and no balls re-bowled in indoor cricket?

Only in the last over of each pair, and only if the batters ask. In other overs they count as one of the six balls. Either way the batting side gets 2 runs plus any runs made. The scorer re-bowls them in a pair's last over unless you tap the ball and say the batters kept it.

Do runs count off the ball a batter is out on?

No. Nothing scored off that ball counts, not even the 2 for a wide or no ball. The team loses 5 runs and the batter carries on.

Who faces after a wicket in indoor cricket?

The striker keeps the strike unless the batters had crossed before the wicket. After a run out or a catch the scorer asks whether they crossed. After bowled, stumped or LBW the same batter faces again, unless it was the last ball of the over.

What if a team is a player short?

The rules have a player bat again in the last four overs and two players bowl the last overs. Type that batter's name again in the last pair and pick the bowlers as you go; the scorer only warns about the two-over limit.

Can I print an indoor cricket score sheet?

Yes. Press Print blank sheet for an empty one, or print a match you scored. Each team gets a page with a band per pair, a box for every over and the skins and points at the bottom.
