The North West Cricket Union soft ball pairs sheet covers 8 to 12 players. With 12, six pairs bat two overs each (12 overs), the innings starts on 100 and each out costs 5. Runs hit off a no ball replace the 2 rather than adding to it, and only the last over has extra balls.

Every child bats two overs and the whole innings takes 12, so two teams of 12 finish well inside the two hours the ECB suggests for junior games.

Questions

Why start on 100 instead of 200?

Shorter games score fewer runs, so 100 is enough to stay positive after deductions. Only the margin matters, so any start works as long as both teams use the same one.
